With 355 hectares of vineyards, Umberto Cesari is today one of the leading actors of wine production in Emilia Romagna. A visionary company, focused on the pursuit of excellence and innovation, in constant movement and evolution.
Today, Umberto’s heirs lead the company founded in 1964. The strength and vision of this company was born right there, at the time of the foundation.
This is a love story for Umberto Cesari’s wine, born in his father Ilario’s Osteria opened in the center of Bologna in the early 60’s. Umberto Cesari had a vision: to bring a more advanced winemaking culture to the Bolognese hills and to elevate Sangiovese to a “quality” wine and not just a “quantity” one.
Hence the choice of staying in Emilia Romagna, on the hills of Castel San Pietro Terme. The beginning of a story that seems linear and clear today, but was a real dream at the time: Umberto bought a farm, some land, and made wine making his full time job. Not a hobby, but an all-in, which says much about this family’s philosophy. Never not afraid of looking ahead to the future, believing in a story worth telling. This, together with the choice of dedicating to the production of wine only, and for over 50 years, led the company so far.
The native vines Sangiovese, Albana, Trebbiano and Pignoletto have been joined over time by international vines, experimenting to obtain blends, always with an eye to the enhancement of the territory. The research in the technological field led to certifications related to the sustainability of the production process, while the reference market for wine production is above all international.
Today the company has eight farms and two beating hearts, only one kilometer away from each other: on one side the historic headquarters, which houses the production and storage rooms, as well as the new laboratory where a team of experts focused on the innovations to be implemented both at the agronomic and oenological level.
On the other hand, the new headquarters that houses the beautiful barrel cellar, a splendid panoramic terrace overlooking the vineyards, the wine shop and the tasting room. The highest quality experiences are held here, designed by the company to bring people into contact with the history and production of the company.
The experiences are a high-level journey into the company’s philosophy, closely linked to local food, and exclusive to individual couples or groups who are followed by a dedicated Sommelier in order to tailor the tasting on personal desires or expectations. Those Wine Experiences are dedicated to the culture of wine, history and tradition, and differ in the types of wine being tasted.
The Classic Wine Tour is dedicated to the traditional varieties of the territory, while the Superior Wine Tour is focused on three different interpretations of Sangiovese. The Moma Experience, on the other hand, focuses solely on the three wines of the Moma line.
The Wine Tour Deluxe is an exclusive experience introducing our fascinating history and revealing our winery’s most romantic and compelling corners, concluding with a tasting of the wines most appreciated and awarded by Italian and international wine critics.

The Wine Tour Prestige is a sensory adventure in wine and fine taste. Tour our vineyards and winery, then savour an exclusive barrel tasting, in the heart of our winery, along with a selection of quality, locally-produced gourmet foods selected by our partners.
Another proposal is to visit the vineyards with a walk or a picnic, with the tasting focused on the combinations of selected wines and the food of this area.
If you wish to discover the products of this winery, their online shop gives the chance to choose and compose a box with different wines, or just opt for one of the three thematic boxes they propose.
The “Liano collection” contains the two wines of the Liano line. “Liano” is an intense red wine, composed of 70% Sangiovese Grosso and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, while Liano Bianco is an elegant blend of Chardonnay (70%) and Sauvignon Blanc (30%).
The “Tradition and Modernity” box contains three white wines and three red wines, and is perfect for lovers of the Romagna tradition revisited in a modern key. Three reds and three whites for a journey immersed in the varieties grown by the company. Two 100% Sangiovese reds, Ca ‘Grande and Sangiovese Riserva, three wines from the Moma line, of which two elegant blends, one red and one white, and one 100% Pignoletto sparkling wine. Finally a young, dry and floral white wine, 100% Albana.
The box “My land” goes beyond the line drawn by the previous ones: in addition to four wines that representing the link with the territory, the box contains the Salt of Cervia and a bottle of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena PGI.
